The Full Las Vegas Price Table
These are the typical ranges callers see across the valley for the jobs we get asked about most. It is worth reading row by row before you call anyone, because it shows what each price covers and what it leaves out.
Read the right column as closely as the price, because some jobs are quoted as a total for the work while a rekey is quoted per lock with the visit added on top. When a company gives you a number on the phone, ask whether it is the total for the whole job or only one piece of it.
A national guide lands in the same neighborhood. Fixr, a cost site last updated on January 31, 2025, lists a house lockout at $50 to $175 and a door lock installation at $100 to $300 with labor included, so national guides land close to what callers see here, with local house lockouts running a little higher.
For our own work, residential rekeys start at $79.99, veterans get 10% off new locks, and business estimates are free.
| Job | Typical price | What the price covers |
|---|---|---|
| Service call | $45 to $90 | A licensed technician and a stocked service van driving out to you, which is billed separately from the work itself |
| House lockout | $85 to $195 | Getting you back inside your home, with the price set by the type of lock and the hour of the call |
| Car lockout | $45 to $135 | Opening the vehicle without damage to the door, the window or the paint |
| Rekey | $20 to $50 per lock, plus the visit | New pins in the lock you already own, so every old key stops working that day |
| New deadbolt, installed | $100 to $300 | The new lock and the labor to fit it, with the price set by the grade of hardware you choose |
| Basic cut car key | $50 to $180 | A plain metal key cut for an older vehicle that has no chip in the ignition |
| Transponder key | $150 to $350 with programming | The new key plus programming of the chip that your ignition looks for before it will start |
| Nights, weekends and holidays | $25 to $75 more | Added on top of the total for the job when the call comes outside regular business hours |
What Moves the Price Up or Down
Three things drive almost every locksmith bill. The first is the hardware itself. A standard pin tumbler deadbolt opens and rekeys quickly, while high security cylinders, commercial hardware and smart locks take more time and more specialized tooling. The second is the clock. A lockout at 3am costs more to staff than one at 3pm, which is why after hours surcharges exist across the industry. The third is distance. A company dispatching from inside the valley reaches you faster and cheaper than one routing calls from out of state.
A few smaller things matter too. More locks mean more labor, so a house with six cylinders costs more to rekey than a condo with two, and a lock that was forced, bent or jammed may need parts on top of the labor. Fixr lists damage to the lock or door and the need to drill as two of the things that push a bill up, and both are things a technician should explain before starting.
What should never move the price is the moment the technician arrives. When a company quotes the job on the phone and the number doubles at your door, you are not paying for locksmithing anymore. You are paying for a sales tactic.

Two Worked Examples
These examples use the published ranges above to show how the pieces add up on a real bill, and they are examples rather than quotes.
Say you just bought a house and want the front door, the back door and the door from the garage rekeyed on a weekday afternoon. That is three locks at $20 to $50 each, or $60 to $150, plus one visit at $45 to $90. The likely total is $105 to $240, and every old key the last owner handed out stops working that day. If you are torn between this and new hardware, our guide on whether to rekey or replace runs the numbers both ways.
Now say you lose the only key to a car with a chip in it on a Saturday night. The transponder key runs $150 to $350 with programming, and the weekend hour adds $25 to $75, so the job lands between $175 and $425. Ask on the phone whether the visit is already inside that number or added on top of it, because even at the top of that range, cutting the key at the car usually beats a tow to the dealer and a wait for parts.
Car Keys Are Their Own Category
Automotive work prices differently because the key itself is the cost. A basic cut key for an older vehicle runs $50 to $180. A transponder key with the chip your ignition looks for usually lands between $150 and $350 with programming. Smart fobs and proximity keys run higher still, though almost always well under what a dealership charges once you add the tow they require.
We cut and program keys for more than 40 brands at the vehicle, which is exactly why the mobile locksmith route usually wins on both price and time.
Before you call, find the year, make and model of the vehicle, and say whether you still have a working key to copy, because copying a working key is a simpler job than making a key from nothing and that difference shows up in the price.
How to Get a Quote You Can Trust
Describe the job completely when you call. Say what kind of lock or vehicle it is, where you are, and what happened. A legitimate Las Vegas locksmith will give you the full price before anyone is dispatched, and the technician will confirm it before touching the lock. If a company will only commit to a low teaser number for the service call, treat that as your warning and keep dialing.
Ask three short questions before you agree to anything, which are whether the number is the total or just the trip, whether the hour changes it, and what happens to the price if the lock has to be drilled. A real company answers all three in under a minute without getting defensive about it.
Then check who you are calling, which means asking for the license number and comparing it with the city record, the way our verify our license page shows. If the number on the phone sounds far too low, read how the locksmith bait and switch works before you let anyone come out.
Every call to Silver State Locksmith works this way. The price is agreed before the truck rolls, day or night, anywhere in the valley. A technician usually reaches most of the valley in 20 to 30 minutes, and if you are locked out right now, our house lockout service starts with the same phone quote.
Questions We Get Asked
Why do locksmiths charge a service call fee?
The fee covers a licensed technician and a stocked service vehicle coming to you. It is standard across Las Vegas and any honest company will state it up front along with the price of the work itself.
Is rekeying really that much cheaper than new locks?
Yes. Rekeying swaps the pins inside your existing lock so old keys stop working, usually for $20 to $50 per lock. New hardware costs more because you are buying the lock as well as the labor. If the lock itself works fine, a rekey is almost always the better buy.
Does insurance or AAA ever cover locksmith costs?
Sometimes. Many roadside plans reimburse car lockouts up to a set limit, and some home policies cover locks after a break in. Keep your receipt and ask your carrier. Your plan may list a set dollar limit, so check it before the technician starts.
How much more does a locksmith cost at night in Las Vegas?
Nights, weekends and holidays usually add $25 to $75 to the total in Las Vegas. That extra covers a technician working off hours. Ask for the full price with the night charge included before anyone is sent, so the number at your door matches the one you heard.
