We make and program Land Rover keys at your vehicle in Las Vegas, 24/7, from older Discoverys to the newest Range Rovers. We tell you up front if your model needs a dealer step, because a few newer Land Rovers need the dealer for one step of the process.

Locked out at a trailhead parking lot, or lost the only fob you own? Our vehicle lockouts service gets you back inside, and we can start on a replacement key during the same visit.

  • Hidden bladeMost Land Rover smart fobs contain a small metal blade that opens the driver door when the battery is completely dead.
  • Old alarm remotesOlder Land Rovers often have a plain key plus a separate remote that also controls the alarm system.
  • US namesSome Discovery and Freelander models were sold in the US under the names LR3, LR4 and LR2.
  • Battery firstA dead fob battery can look exactly like a broken key, so we check the battery before replacing anything expensive.

Which Land Rover Key Do You Have?

Land Rover went from plain keys with alarm remotes, to flip keys, and then to smart fobs with push to start on most models sold during the last fifteen years.

  • Key with alarm remoteClassic Defenders, early Discoverys and older Range Rovers have a cut key plus a remote for the alarm and door locks, and we cut the key, and we can replace or program the remote separately.
  • Flip keyMany Land Rovers from the 2000s have a folding blade with lock buttons combined in one unit, so it needs both precise cutting and electronic programming.
  • Smart fobNewer Land Rovers use a keyless fob and a start button instead of a turning key. We program the new fob at the vehicle when the model allows it, and we tell you first if a dealer step is needed.

Land Rover Models and Their Keys

Older Range Rovers use a cut key with a separate alarm remote, and the redesign in the early 2000s brought a flip style remote key. By the 2010s, most Range Rovers, including the Sport, Evoque and later Velar, use a smart fob with push to start.

Land Rover Discovery

The Discovery of the 1990s uses a cut key with an alarm remote. In the US it was later sold as the LR3 and then the LR4 from the mid 2000s to the mid 2010s, which brought remote keys and then smart fobs, and the newer Discovery also uses a smart fob.

Land Rover Defender

The classic Defender 90 and 110 sold here in the 1990s use a plain cut key with an alarm remote, while the new Defender that arrived around 2020 uses a smart fob with push to start.

The first Freelander, sold here in the early 2000s, uses a key with a remote, while its replacement arrived in the US as the LR2 in the late 2000s and uses a fob with push button starting.

How We Make a New Land Rover Key

  1. 1

    Name the model

Tell us the year and whether it is a Range Rover, Discovery, Defender or one of the LR models.

  2. 2

    Hear about dealer steps

Before we drive out, we tell you whether your particular model needs the dealer for one step.

  3. 3

    Verify and program

We check your photo ID and the registration or title, and then we cut and program the key.

  4. 4

    Test the systems

You lock, unlock and start the vehicle with the new key yourself before the technician leaves.

What a Land Rover Key Costs in Las Vegas

Land Rover smart fobs cost more than a standard chip key, which typically runs $150 to $350 in Las Vegas. Older Land Rovers with a plain cut key usually cost $50 to $180, plus the cost of a remote if you need one.

Nights, weekends and holidays usually add $25 to $75, and to see how these prices compare with other locksmith work, read how much a locksmith costs in Las Vegas.

Make a Spare Before You Need One

Land Rover fobs are among the more expensive keys we make, so losing the last one is painful. A spare made while one fob still works is easier and costs less than starting from scratch, so ask about a spare when you book, or read about our car keys.

Owning a Land Rover in Las Vegas

Land Rovers in Las Vegas often head to Red Rock, Mount Charleston and remote desert roads, where a lost key becomes a serious problem far from town. Keep the spare at home rather than in the glovebox, and since summer heat drains fob batteries faster, replace the battery once a year.
